Open Questions
How complete is our inventory of terrestrial analogues?
Are there Martian geologic processes/landforms/materials that do NOT have terrestrial analogues?
What morphologic attributes of a landscape can be directly compared between Mars and Earth?
What scaling laws (spatial, temporal) have to be applied in such comparisons?
In which terrestrial environments are mineralogical assemblages being formed and/or stable, which have also been identified on Mars?
What are plausible parent materials for rocks with the geochemical signatures found on Mars?
What and where are climatic environments on Earth (present or past) that can inform us on aspects of the climatic evolution of Mars?
What are suitable analogs for rover/lander and instrument operations (e.g., to assess the trafficability of terrain)?
What are the limits of analogue studies?
